The St Regis New York

New York, United States

Sure, the city’s changed, but settle down for a Bloody Mary at the St. Regis New York’s King Cole Bar and it’s the Jazz Age all over again…

Some travel to New York to experience the city pictured in Hollywood’s golden years, to taste that Jazz Age glam and for a sense of the American dream… Sure, the city has changed but settle down for a Bloody Mary at the St. Regis New York’s King Cole Bar and it’s as close as it gets. For a taste of Old World charm, the St. Regis New York can’t be beat. Woody Allen loved the hotel so much he included it in three of his movies. Salvador Dali and his pair of Ocelots were a regular sight at the King Cole Bar, and in suite 1105, a jealous Joe DiMaggio ended his marriage with Marilyn Monroe after that iconic flying skirt scene. Yes, there’s pedigree here, and there’s history, and to this day, the St. Regis lives up to it with aplomb. White gloved butlers unpack your bags and get busy answering any of your requests before you even voice them. In the lobby, grandiose marble staircases, gilded mirrors and a two-storey ceiling with hand-painted trompe l'oeil murals prove that luxury is indeed timeless. The ultimate treat? A Bloody Mary at the King Coles Bar. It’s where the first one was made and it’s still one of the best around…

The best hotel we have ever stayed at. Every detail excellent. Every staff member: ambassador/greeter, front desk, bellmen, housekeeping, butlers -all outstanding. We mentioned to our housekeeper Jane that a friend was spending the afternoon with us before an event nearby. She offered extra bottled water, and even left extra towels if needed for our guest - we didn't even ask but so thoughtful. Courtesy car took us to our restaurant one night- very nice. We also entertained another local friend for lunch in Astor Court.

It was the second time I've stayed at the St Regis and both times have been a good experience. The first time we were in a street side room on the second or third floor nonetheless it was very quiet. Also, our luggage arrived on a later flight but the hotel staff brought it right up to the room in the middle of the night when it arrived as we had requested. The second stay I was upgraded to a beautiful suite. Everyone from the reception desk people to the maids and the room waiter could not have been nicer.
