A luxuriant haven drenched in white hues, punctuated by palm trees: you’d have a hard time believing you were in the centre of New Delhi, so refreshingly calm is the scene. The multi-award-winning hotel could easily double as an art history museum, with no less than three galleries dedicated to colonial and post-colonial art – the largest collection in the entire city, in fact. No super slick finishes or business-directional design here: it’s all rattan furniture, deep wooden tones, photographs of days gone by, plush sofas, marble and chandeliers. Old-fashioned charm doesn’t mean that there aren’t surprises in store, however: the Sufi-inspired spa is an original, stunning affair.
