Arriving at this hotel, you wouldn’t say you’re only a few kilometres from the bustle of the Jemaa el-Fna square. The Palais Ronsard, a newcomer to Marrakech's luxury league, is a retreat as palatial as they come. You don’t come here to see and be seen; you check-in for the peace and serenity the location ensures, and the sense of place, courtesy of interior designer Gil Dez. He aimed for a mixture of sensuous luxury and aesthetic simplicity, and the result was a design temple that feels somewhere between a Tuscan villa, a colonial house and a Moroccan palace. The rooms overlook century-old olive trees, roses and fountains, and inside, colonial-inspired architecture meets Oriental chic for an extravagant home away from home. The hotel’s restaurants, including Le Jardin d'Hiver and The Ronsard with its 30’s decor of rare woods and scarlet velvet, are also reasons to stay, but our personal favorite might just be Le Verger du Poète… In a regal setting amid the hotel’s vegetable garden, and under a pergola lit by candlelight at nightfall, there is no better place to enjoy the fabulous food- or nature- of the Red City.
