Hotels in Vienna don’t get more noble than the Palais Hansen Kempinski. Maybe it’s the location of the hotel on a stretch of the Ringstraße where swanky cafes spill into cobbled streets...or maybe it’s the historical 19th-century features of the building, but there is something almost aristocratic about this orange-hued grande dame with its high ceilings, original columns and wrought-iron staircases. The most impressive of its spaces is the glossy lobby-lounge where the Viennese coffee house culture is kept a traditional affair- think velvet-upholstered furniture, a grand piano in one corner and warm apfelstrudel served with loose-leaf tea that would put even Fortnum's to shame… Then, of course, there is the Michelin-starred Edvard restaurant where the tasting menus inspired by Alpine and Mediterranean flavors are some of the most innovative you’ll ever come across. The experience is rounded with a quiet lull of jazz and fresh flowers in the room, which set its refined tone.
