Sitting practically atop the Spanish Steps, the Hotel de la Ville has always been a hot-spot for celebrities and European aristocrats looking for an escape in the Eternal City, and after its three-year renovation, it has again opened its doors, albeit with a lot more panache. And why not? After all, it’s got a glittering new interior, done up in velvets and rich woods, with plenty of Baroque and Classicist elements thrown in. Marble busts and chinoiseries jostle for attention, and in the rooms (which count among the largest in the city), designer Olga Polizzi infused both individuality and style with strong colours, bold designs, enormous beds and bathrooms cast in floor-to-ceiling marble. For more wow factor, the hotel’s enchanting courtyard is a place where classic Italian charm meets contemporary cool, and there is no place like it for drinks in the heart of ancient city.
