Switzerland is not short of lakeside hotels, but the Grand Hôtel du Lac, with its old-world charm and understated swankiness, is something special. Maybe it’s the decor of the rooms and common spaces that give the place its edge… Decked out in plush fabrics, colorful furnishings and eclectic artwork throughout, it feels a little stuck in the 1970s, while restored architectural details like the high ceilings and pretty French doors opening to views of the Alps are picture postcard Swiss.
