The hotel at a glance
We love infinity pools, we love jungle scenery and we love outstanding service. So, when we went to the Four Seasons resort Bali at Sayan; we got to do something else that we love. Enjoy a one in a million hotel experience that we can proudly recommend.
We think that the word “unique” is sometimes overused in the hotel industry. Whether that’s because the word is warranted or because there’s no thesaurus available is irrelevant to the fact that few things, are actually, unique. But If you’ve been to the Four Seasons at Sayan, you will be amongst the lucky few who can happily overuse that word over and over and again and again.
The entrance to this resort will stand out from anything you’ve experienced in the past. You’ll walk across a suspended wooden footbridge, with the jungle to either side of you, birds chirping and rushing water are all you hear. Right before you, the jungle canopy stretches across the horizon in all its majesty, but when you reach the end of the path, a large “infinity pond” stands as though hanging in mid air.
Four Seasons didn’t build a hotel in a jungle as much as they carved one out of it, harmonizing natural and man made creations to perfection. Every single one of the the 18 suites and 48 villas integrates its surroundings so well, that if the jungle sprites wanted a 5 star luxury hotel; they would probably hire Four Seasons to do it. All rooms come with a distinctive style and view, but they all have deep soaking tubs, outdoor areas that give on to a private plunge pool and an amazing scenery. The interior, is luxury with a deft touch. Using magnificent dark teak wood and fusing contemporary and local design, Four Season’s rooms feel like million dollar tree houses, where you can wake up on the outdoor bed to the soft touch of the sun’s rays, and to the call of a thousand different birds within the jungle canopy.
Everything here is designed for relaxation and this resort will sooth your nerves within minutes. But the acme of zen is of course the spa. We advise a session on the very first day, just to help set the tone as the setting and treatment here are so particular. The spa is traditional and offers Balinese Ayurveda, yoga, massages and signature treatments focusing on your chakra; the hotel even offers a trip to a spiritual healer should you request it. You might not have all the high tech of moderns spa’s but the traditional care and setting will give you the best that this age old tradition has to offer.
In terms of dining and bars, the Four Seasons offers the Ayung terrace, the riverside cafe and the Jati bar. The Jati steals the show here with the jungle canopy so close that you can almost touch, and there’s nothing quite like sipping a drink whilst staring into that vast sea of dark green. The other restaurants are superb offerings too, serving delicious local feasts such as the Rijstafel and spit roasted suckling pig. The themed dinners here must be experienced and the Lotus Pond dinner will leave you spellbound. Served on the rooftop, the improvised restaurant provides a 360 view of the valley and resort’s gardens. Lanterns and candles light up the night as the Chef’s cook your delicious meal right before your eyes and the moment will have you reevaluating every fine dining experience you’ve had before.
Just talking about this resort make us tingle in excitement about our next trip there. So if you truly want to find out what unique means, go right ahead and book that once in a lifetime experience you are looking for.
