At the Bulgari Hotel Milan, the atmosphere is as serene as it gets this side of town. Once you make your way past the hotel’s huge garden with its laurels and wisteria, you’ll discover a 1950s palazzo with the cleanest black-and-white marble facade and a unique interior design rendered in a riot of precious materials, from Zimbabwe black marble to Vicenza stone and Burmese woods. The most beautiful of the hotel spaces is the lounge with its stunning fireplace and pure silk carpets while the rooms upstairs, imagined by Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, are true expressions of Italian craftsmanship with their cream-coloured wallpapers, contemporary furniture and framed sketches of iconic Bulgari jewels. Not to be outshone, the hotel’s subterranean spa is just as impressive with its indoor pool and hammam.
