Background

Anthony Lee has been a part of the Connaught for nearly three decades and is only the hotel’s seventh General Manager in 110 years.

Anthony studied for a degree in hotel management for 4 years before joining the Connaught. Whilst studying he gained experiences in several hotels including The Dorchester and worked on a number of functions at Buckingham Palace. Anthony also worked at The Crillon in Paris for a year during which time he learnt French.

Anthony is the self-described custodian of the soul of the Connaught; during his tenure he has carried Grace Kelly’s bags to the hotel’s Penthouse, sipped a martini with Cary Grant and walked Lauren Bacall’s dog Sophie.

The Connaught, one of the world’s most cherished hotels, is a London landmark which has recently received a magnificent redesign of its guestrooms, suites and interiors by the world’s leading designers. During the restoration, Anthony could be found at the hotel most days, in his hard-hat and construction glasses, overseeing the work taking place and taking an active role in every element of the restoration.

Understanding that it is the thoughtful and intuitive service that draws guests back to the Connaught, Maybourne Hotel Group, owner’s of the Connaught, made the unprecedented decision to keep on every member of the Connaught team at full pay during its closure.

Anthony has seen the hotel through an enormous change process and transformation with several ownerships and embraced the challenge of bringing the hotel into the 21st Century with a creative and supportive team which has resulted in an extraordinary product.
Feet firmly on the ground, Anthony has never been diverted from ensuring the attention to detail, the exceptional service delivery and food quality leaving guests with an unforgettable experience.
